2009 Kick-Off Ceremony on Sunday, October 25 This year, Solid Rock will continue to act as an official collection site for Operation Christmas Child. Collection of shoeboxes will run every Sunday and Wednesday from October 25 through November 25.
Solid Rock Continues Support Operation Christmas Child brings joy and hope to children in desperate situations around the world through gift-filled shoe boxes and the Good News of God’s love.
This program of Samaritan’s Purse provides an opportunity for people of all ages to be involved in a simple, hands-on missions project while focusing on the true meaning of Christmas—Jesus Christ, God’s greatest gift. Along with shoe box gifts, millions of children are given Gospel booklets in their own language.
Solid Rock decided to step things up a notch for the 2005 Operation Christmas Child program and became an official drop-off/collection site for our community. Between our church congregation and our neighbors who brought in shoeboxes from our community, we collected over 1,000 shoeboxes in all.

Our Goal: No Child Turned Away Despite the 7.6 million gift-filled shoeboxes collected in 2005 and distributed to children in 95 countries around the world, hundreds of children are turned away every year because there just aren't enough boxes to go around. Our guest presentor, Daniel Ofori-Boafo of Ghana, provided us with several heart-stirring images of children that had to be turned away in Ghana last year.
As the holiday season approaches, many of us make our plans for family dinners and start gearing up to buy those special gifts for family and friends...sadly, many familes in the world have nothing special to look forward to and it is the children that suffer most.
If you never participated in Operation Christmas Child, consider donating a gift-filled shoebox this year. If you have participated in the past, consider adding one more box to your donation this year so that we never have to see a child turned away like these above.
