How do I request a child dedication at Solid Rock?
Child Dedications are held four times each year during a Sunday usually in January, April, July, and October (unless otherwise indicated on the form). This ceremony is held during our 11:00am service.
Ask your family and friends who may be visiting us for the first time to see an usher at the door when they arrive. Our ushers will be glad to escort them so that they may sit together.
Note: You must submit your online at least 2 weeks prior to the date you selected.
What is the significance of dedicating a child?
A child dedication is a public statement of the commitment made by the parents to instruct their children in the ways of the Lord. This is accomplished through active participation with your children concerning God's Word, worship, and prayer.
Is this the same as a Baptism or Christening? Actually, no. Our Child Dedication is a Christian ceremony which simply dedicates an infant or young child to God and has the parents dedicate themselves to raising the child as a Christian. The ceremony does not include baptizing the infant or child with water as we believe that the person being baptized must be able to make a conscious decision to do so as a believer in Christ, which infants cannot yet do.
Dedication is not the same as Salvation.
Dedicating a child does not grant them salvation. Salvation comes only by their individual profession if faith in Jesus Christ. However, by fulfilling this commitment, you will be helping your child on his or her journey towards Christ.
The Bible tells us in Deuteronomy 6:5-7, "Love the Lord your God with all your heart and with all your soul and with all your strength. These commandments that I give you today are to be upon your hearts. Impress them on your children. Talk about them when you sit at home and when you walk along the road, when you lie down and when you get up."
