Forward Together in Changing Times
PASTOR TOM STIMPSON

We live in a rapidly changing world. The evidence of this change can be seen all around us as well as in every area of our lives. Change has become an everyday term.

Just think of some everyday phrases we use which contain the word “change”; change hands; change off; change your mind; change your tune; change of heart; change of life; change the subject; change your attitude; change your clothes; change the way you drive; change the way you eat; change your friends; change your job; change your lifestyle. Are you getting the idea?

We vote for change; we pray for change; we hope for change; we look forward to change; we accept change (sometimes); we say, “Keep the change”; as much as we have accepted that change is a part of real life, we resist change with a passion.

To change means to become or make different; to substitute or replace something; to pass from one state to another; it is a variance from routine; a transition from something. Change is also a process – sometimes it is deliberate; sometimes by accident; and sometimes it is the providence of God. Change affects us all.

Benjamin Franklin said, “When you’re finished changing, you’re finished!”

Our theme for 2009 is FORWARD Together in Changing Times. We realize how necessary and vital our personal and corporate changes are if we are going to effectively advance the Gospel in these changing times. Therefore, we assume a “forward” position “together” with our fellow believers in these “changing times” to further God’s agenda. We begin this process with prayer.

Raymond F. Culpepper, General Overseer of the Church of God said, "Prayer is the holy and intimate intersection of God and His church, where He delegates authority to His church to enforce His will on earth as it is in heaven. Prayer is more than presentation; it is partnership. It is more than exercise; it is enforcement. It is more than activity; it is authority. Prayer is our mission because praying is our ministry. If we are to evangelize, plant churches, disciple believers, raise up leaders, and preach the Gospel, we must pray. Let us teach prayer and preach prayer; but most of all, let us pray. Our mission is our ministry. As we pray, we will prevail."

Let’s go FORWARD Together in Changing Times!
