Ron & Michelle Smith have been living and ministering to the people of Lima, Peru since 2006. Sponsored by Fire International, Ron & Michelle are the founders of Fire Peru
Their hearts are burning with passion, not only for the lost, but also to create a hunger and passion for revival among the leaders of the local churches. The Lord has granted great favor already with the governmental authorities in Peru and opened many doors that man could not open. In the first year, they had the opportunity to minister through four conferences, children’s ministry, marriage ministry, start a Bible school, and open their home for a weekly Bible study. Some of the greatest times in ministry have been in the orphanages, schools, local churches, homes, and on the streets of Lima.
Fire Peru is working in conjunction with Samaritans International to provide nutritious food to more than 3,700 children throughout Peru. The rice meals are distributed to pastors free of charge to them, which in turn is cooked and given to the children without cost. These children are eating highly nutritious food three to five times a week. Their goal is to give the pastors tools they can use to draw children to the church and receive the spiritual food they need to live Godly lives. They believe that Christ gave us a model to live by in providing for physical needs to solidify His message in the hearts of those following Him.
Ron & Michelle are working with food engineers to develop a food product that can be made with products commonly grown in Peru. They believe by manufacturing the food product locally in Peru they can provide jobs for the body of Christ, especially single mothers who need income to support their children. Also the food product can be made with less expense and thus providing for more children and reaching many with the gospel. It is their hope to begin shipping food to neighboring countries with the same purpose of supporting other missionaries and pastors the tools they need to reach people with the gospel.
Fire Peru has received their first shipment of 43,000 pounds of vitamin rich, dehydrated rice meals to feed to the malnourished children of Peru. One portion of food a day provides all the vitamins and minerals needed for an entire day.
They use the food to physically feed the hungry children while also feeding their spirits with the gospel of Jesus. Their vision is to build a manufacturing plant in Lima. This would enable Fire Peru to cut the cost of shipping the food, while also helping the economy by providing jobs to some of the local people.
In the year ahead, they are looking to distribute over 43,000 pounds of food to starving children, while taking the message of the gospel with fire and passion to the lost, backslidden, and newly saved. Their desire is to begin reaching the people who are hard to find. Finding those in the jungles, the highlands, and harder places to reach, is a real passion for Ron. With God’s grace and favor, Peru will be won for Christ and set on fire with revival!
