2012: To Every Man an Answer
PASTOR TOM STIMPSON
Always be prepared to give an answer to everyone who asks you to give the reason for the hope that you have. 1 Peter 3:15b (NIV)
The Bible instructs all Christians to be prepared to give an answer to everyone that questions us about our faith. The reference is 1 Peter 3:15 with emphasis on the b part of the verse and it says; "Always be prepared to give an answer to everyone who asks you to give the reason for the hope that you have."
For this to become a regular practice in our lives, we must possess a good understanding of what we believe and why we believe it. We must become proficient at answering the objections and questions of our secularized culture with solid, Bible-based answers. This will be our concentrated focus for 2012.
We will accomplish this goal with a two pronged strategy. First, we need to educate ourselves. 2012 will be a year of apologetics (a branch of theology that is concerned with proving the truth of Christianity). Several courses will be made available during the year during regular Bible Study hours, Magnet Groups studies (small groups) and special conferences (live and video).
Second, we must continue to pursue our missional mandate by using what we learn and with greater effectiveness engage our families, friends and colleagues in meaningful spiritual discussions. As we plant and water the seeds of faith, God will give us the increase! To every man an answer!
