Adventure on the High Seas

Vacation Bible School (VBS) is a great program for children, ages 3-12, setup to help them learn the Word of God in a new and exciting way. This time Evelyn Garcia of our Children's Ministry decided that VBS should take place from 6pm to 9pm, to give parents a well-deserved break in the evening. The kids always have a blast when VBS comes around. This year’s VBS was held from July 19-23 and based on the theme "High Seas Adventure." Learning about Peter’s Journey was a wave of fun.
Throughout the week the children learned about many different things from God’s Word. They learned that God's Word is true, through the story of how Peter Escaped Prison (Acts 12:1-19). We talked about how the angel of the Lord led him out of the prison and far away from King Herod. We also talked about how God's Word is comforting, through the story of when God comforted Paul in a storm at sea (Acts 27). They learned that the angel of God spoke to Paul, and told him "Do not be afraid. God in his goodness has granted safety to everyone sailing with you" (Acts 27:24). And even though Paul and the sailors were ship-wrecked they were still kept safe.
The children also found out that God's Word can be surprising, through the story of Paul surviving a bite from a poisonous snake (Acts 28:1-10). They found out that as Paul was gathering sticks to put in the fire, a poisonous snake came out and bit Paul on the hand (Acts 28:3). All the people on the island thought for sure that he was going to drop dead sooner or later but he stayed perfectly fine. The islanders could not believe it so they asked him if he could heal other people there. Paul prayed over everyone and they were all healed. They learned that God's Word is life-changing, through the story of Peter and John teaching about Jesus (Acts 3-4:12). It talks about how Peter healed a crippled man and then Peter and John were put in jail for doing a good deed. Last and most importantly, they learned that God's Word is for everyone, through the story of how the community of believers shared the Word of God (Acts 2:42-47). Here they learned how a community of believers devoted themselves to the apostles' teaching, and to fellowship, and to sharing in meals and to prayer.
While at VBS, the children also got to participate in some fun games and activities. Every day we started off with praise and worship to get the kids going. They got to make cool crafts to take home and share with their families. They also got to go outside and play fun entertaining games like Twister, Frisbee, Soccer, Tag, and Dodge ball with their friends. The VBS kids were always having fun. Rain or shine there was always something exciting for them to do!
When the week was over, each class got to perform a song or a skit for the parents, on the closing night. The Mighty Dolphins (ages 3-4) got to sing a song called "Arky, Arky". The Electric Eel's (ages 5-6) also sang a song called "My God is..." Then the Silver Seas (ages 7-8) performed a play about the "Great Prison Escape" when Paul had been sent to prison for praying to God, and the Angel of the Lord helped him escape. And last but not least God's Mighty Shark's (ages 9-12) performed both a play called "Paul's Prison Escape" and a song called "I'm Alive". The whole show was amazing! The kids had a great time. The parents and teachers enjoyed it too! Thanks to Solid Rock for all your support! We can’t wait to do this again next summer! See our photo highlights.
