Engaging the Missional Mandate for 2011
PASTOR TOM STIMPSON
PASTOR TOM STIMPSON
Jesus said, "I have been given complete authority in heaven and on earth. Therefore, go and make disciples of all the nations, baptizing them in the name of the Father and the Son and the Holy Spirit. Teach these new disciples to obey all the commands I have given you. And be sure of this: I am with you always, even to the end of the age." Matthew 28:18-20 (NLT)
As the end of the age approaches (the signs are all around us), it is imperative that we engage ourselves in the missional mandate. What is the missional mandate? It is simply following the command given to all of Jesus’ disciples to go, make disciples, baptize and teach the commands of Jesus. These commands, or mandates, must be engaged in or entered into before we can fulfill and please our God. We have talked long enough. Now is the time for action.
We have walked with Jesus through some difficult times, and He has been faithful. There appears to be more trouble on the horizon but Jesus knew this well in advance of our time here on earth. He told us to “be sure of this: I am with you always, even to the end of the age.” We are not alone. Plus, He has given us His authority to counter all of the advances of the enemy. So, there are no valid excuses; no more delays to be entertained; now is the time to act!
Now, individually and collectively, we will engage the missional mandate by developing a missional way of thinking. We will train ourselves to recognize that our whole life (private; professional; public) is to be an instrument of God to present the gospel of Jesus Christ to a lost and dying world. We will enter into partnership with God with all that we possess to invest in His Kingdom work. With His help, we will experience the restoration of a powerful church that lives and breathes to see the saving of lost souls, the miracles of Jesus, and the plan of God fulfilled.
