One of the most common questions Christians are asked is, “Do you believe that there was a global flood?” In Genesis chapters 6 and 7, there is a clear description of a global flood that God brought upon the earth as an act of judgment against man’s rebellion and sin. Today, let’s take a look at some answers…evidences that confirm the Genesis account of the great flood.

Why believe in Jesus? What makes him so different from Socrates, Buddha, Mohammed, or any of the others? After all, don’t all religions lead to God? According to the teachings of Jesus – the answer is a definitive NO!

In an age of conflicting religious claims, no issue challenges the modern mind more than the authenticity of the founder of Christianity. For if He is who He said He is, then all the other paths are dead ends – and His way is the only way. Nearly 2000 years have passed since Jesus walked on the earth, and yet only a fool would turn a deaf ear and ignore His claims as God and never truly investigate their authenticity.

We’re in a series entitled Answers. We’re learning how to defend our faith with others…and give them answers as to why we have such a great living faith. Today, let’s wrestle with and learn how to respond to that ancient question of the skeptics, “How do you know that Jesus is the only way to God?

It amazes me that for so long we have been duped into believing that we have to separate the Bible from science…but as we know…God is the originator of all knowledge (science), therefore, the Bible should be consistent with science as we know it. The Bible has revealed scientific facts hundreds and thousands of years before modern science learned about them.

While it is true that the Bible is not primarily a science book, not a text book designed to speak to your mind, but rather a love letter to speak to your heart, we should remember that the God of salvation is the God of creation…and when the Bible does speak on scientific matters, it speaks with complete authority and absolute certainty and accuracy.

Every once in a while you’ll hear how modern science disagrees with the Bible. What should we do when this happens? Be patient, and give science time to catch up! Science has always needed to catch up with the Bible.

The major division between professing Christians today is no longer the denominations; the division is between those who believe the Bible is true, and those who do not.

Our passage this morning predicted this would happen: that those who believe the Bible to be the inspired Word of God would become fewer in number, and would be looked down upon.

I want to say that it is important to me and to our leadership here at Solid Rock Church that everything we do is built upon the fact that this is the very Word of God…and without the assurance that this IS the Word of God, and that every word of it is true, we have no certainty about the way of salvation, we have no promise of a home in Heaven, and we have no standard to live by. If a church does not believe that the Bible is the word of God, then it has become nothing more than a social club.

I suppose it has to do with my rural upbringing. There are cultures, though, in which being late is the rule of the day. I’ve even heard that some Christians incorporate lateness as part of their theology. It has been said that Pentecostals believe in justification, regeneration, sanctification and procrastination. I have certainly met some who are that way.
The book of Deuteronomy ends with Moses' unparalleled epitaph: "Since then no prophet has risen in Israel like Moses, whom the Lord knew face to face, who did all those miraculous signs and wonders the Lord sent him to do in Egypt—to Pharaoh and to all his officials and to his whole land. For no one has ever shown the mighty power or performed the awesome deeds that Moses did in the sight of all Israel." Deuteronomy 34:10-12

To all Jews, Moses was the greatest of all men. According to one early tradition, Moses had higher rank and privilege than the ministering angels. He was Israel's greatest prophet. God communicated directly to him and testified regarding their relationship. He was considered Israel's greatest saint, for Scripture says he was "more humble than any one else on the face of the earth." Numbers 12:3 This is perhaps most amazing of all because often those who have accomplished great things are anything but humble. But Moses was the humblest of the entire human race!

Therefore, I urge you, brothers, in view of God's mercy, to offer your bodies as living sacrifices, holy and pleasing to God?which is your spiritual worship. Do not conform any longer to the pattern of this world, but be transformed by the renewing of your mind. Then you will be able to test and approve what God's will is?his good, pleasing and perfect will. Romans 12:1-2.

This passage can nourish us wherever we are in our spiritual pilgrimage. For those further along, it can serve as an affirmation and deepening of matters long settled. For those just beginning to seriously interact with the demands of Christ, it can be a spiritual benchmark. Let?s take a few moments this morning to discover and consider four fundamentals of the riches of this supreme expression of commitment.

In order to understand the Scriptures properly, we need to consider the actual words of Scripture. We have to know what the words mean in order to preach them. We have to know the total context. It is also helpful to understand the historical and cultural setting, which will give us the broader picture. Finally we need to understand why the writer wrote what he wrote—his purpose. Only when we have gathered all of this can we gain a full understanding of what a given passage of Scripture has to say.

But there is something else we need that is not so scientific but is just as important. We need to catch the flavor of the passage we are studying. To a great extent, how well we do that depends on us—how well we enter into the passage, whether we allow it to permeate our being, whether we permit our imagination to carefully interact with the passage, whether we as Christians allow the Holy Spirit to speak to us. To understand John 7:1-39 we must catch its flavor.

The love of God is the key to freedom from the trap of offense. This must be an abounding love, a love that continually grows and is strengthened in our hearts. So many are deceived by a superficial love; a love that talks but does not act. The love that will keep us from stumbling lays down its life selflessly – even for the good of an enemy. When we walk in this kind of love, we cannot be seduced into the trap of offense.

I think you will agree with me that as Joseph went through his life challenges, he possessed something supernatural that kept him from falling into sin (and he had numerous opportunities to do so); something that kept him looking up (encouraged) when his flesh could have easily fallen into discouragement or even depression; and something that gave him the ability to wait for the fulfillment of those promises that God had made to him… no matter how long that would take!

Was he some kind of a super-human, droid-like being who overcame the tests and trials of his life as easy obstacles? Or did he discover a power and strength well beyond his own that became the well-spring of life within him? I believe that this ability stemmed from his anointing.

So many in the body of Christ today are unable to function properly in their calling because of the multiple wounds and hurts that offenses have caused in their lives. The closer the relationship, the more potential exists for severe offenses to occur. You will find the greatest hatred among people who were once very close. Even in our homes, meant to be a shelter of protection, provision, and growth where we learn to give and receive love, is often the very root of our pain. History shows that the bloodiest wars are civil wars – brother against brother, son against father, or father against son.

For this message, let’s deal with the first category…those who have been mistreated! Let me ask you a question… “If you have been genuinely mistreated, do you have the right to be offended?” To answer this question, let’s look at the life of Jacob’s favorite son, Joseph.

Life can be so unpredictable at times. We are inundated with tests and trials designed to divert us from our destination. On occasion, we are tempted to yield to our old nature and behaviors to cope with these issues. We all carry scars which remind us of decisions (good and bad; right and wrong; wise and unwise) we have made throughout the course of our lives. As believers, we cannot underestimate the importance of finishing the course and reaching the destiny that God has prepared for us. There are only two possible destinations; Destruction or Destiny! God’s desire is for each of us to reach the destiny that He has created for us. Destruction is not God’s desire for any of us; however, our destination is our choice.

In Genesis 37-50, we read the account of Joseph’s life. Joseph’s life is jam-packed with opportunities to walk through “Doors”; opportunities to respond to the overwhelming challenges in his life. The thread of truth which weaves its way through these chapters of his life teaches us that “Your Response Determines Your Future”.

In this sermon series, we will examine these “Doors”; opportunities to choose what our responses will be to our tests and trials, and how these responses will affect our present life and our future destination.

Many people feel that this is just the latest fad, something new that will last only a few years, so we can ignore it and continue business as usual. Every single one of us…every believer has a mission. I know that this is nothing new to any of us, but we have had this knowledge for so long…now it’s time to do something about it. I’m going to do my best biblically to teach you how to manage what God has given you and when you manage it correctly, you receive more. And when you manage it incorrectly you receive less. It’s not an accident nor is it a mystery why some people are blessed and why some people are not blessed.
God knew that man would have the tendency to forget things. That’s why He had to put down His Word in writing, so that we could have something to go back to and refresh our memory from time to time. That is one of the reasons why He has instructed us to come together as often as we can, so that we can be reminded of the things of God. God knew that we would quickly forget where we have come from and how we came to be where we are right now, so He gave us some instructions and some warnings, so that we could constantly remind ourselves of those things.
